I was born in Rhoon, The Netherlands, in 1963. At the age of 11 I started to learn the violin with Martin Sonneveld. After my violin study at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, I specialized in playing the baroque and classical violin. From then on I worked for more than 10 years in many baroque orchestras in Europe, such as La Stagione Frankfurt, Freiburger Barock Orchester and the Dutch Bach Society and I was concertmaster of Das-Neu-Eröffnete-Orchestre, the Monteverdi-Orchester-München and the Utrechts Barok Consort. In 1997 the wish was born to combine my musicianship with my interest and knowledge of bows, my passion for woodworking and my hobby of furniture making in the profession of bowmaker. I had the luck of finding a fantastic teacher, my good friend and wonderful bowmaker Basil de Visser from Amsterdam, whom I owe a lot. Nowadays I am a bowmaker and musician, which means that I can test my bows in practice by playing them in concerts and that I can exchange with my colleague musicians who even often lead me to traces of fine old bows.
